What I Like
1. Excellent leather and craftsmanship
The leather feels and looks premium, and the overall construction is excellent.
2. Lightweight
Despite being a premium leather bag, it remains light enough to walk the course.
3. Just the right amount of storage
The bag has three traditional zippered pockets, two open netted pockets, and three smaller pockets. I think Avgar got the amount of storage just right. There is enough room for everything I actually need during a round without encouraging me to load the bag with things I don’t.
The two large zippered pockets are surprisingly spacious. Each can hold up to four 16.9-ounce water bottles.
4. Excellent strap management
The straps and their attachment points were clearly well thought out. Nothing feels unnecessarily complicated or poorly positioned.
Thoughtful Details
There are two small, flat, top-loading pockets next to the carry handle. I use one for my divot tool, but they’re ideal for pencils, markers, or similarly shaped items that you want to access quickly.
Above the handle is also a small leather loop that can be used to attach accessories with a carabiner.
The two open netted pockets on the underside of the large pockets are particularly useful for items you want to grab without opening a zipper. I keep a small leather first-aid pouch in one and my glove in the other.
And the shoulder straps have a hidden feature. Where the straps intersect there is a small concealed pocket that’s just right for some cash, a membership or range card, or two.
These little touches are what separate the Links Bag from a simple minimalist golf bag. There is considerably more thoughtful storage and functionality than its clean exterior initially suggests.
What I Would Improve
The zippers are rough against your hands when reaching into the pockets. Given how refined the rest of the bag feels, improving the zipper design or the areas surrounding the openings would be a worthwhile upgrade.
The leg spread needs more control. This is my biggest criticism. The legs spread quite far apart, particularly on smooth surfaces. When that happens, the bag sits noticeably lower and the legs can look as though they’re approaching the point of collapsing.
I purchased a golf-bag leg strap to add some much-needed retention. It limits how far the legs can spread and keeps the bag sitting at a much more comfortable height for me.
Overall
The Avgar Links Bag strikes an excellent balance between minimalism and functionality. It’s lightweight, beautifully made, uses exceptional leather, and has enough storage for everything I need during a round.
